Surveys
I conduct surveys across a wide range of collections and material types, from mixed photographic holdings to archival records. This has included extensive private autochrome collections, photographer's archives, and collections housed in historic properties.
Surveys can be undertaken prior to acquisition to assess condition and identify the conservation work required. For large collections, a systematic survey provides a clear overview, helping to prioritise objects, highlight risks, and better understand preservation needs.
In addition to surveying objects and material types, I also assess storage and housing for large, mixed collections. Each assessment incorporates tailored recommendations on improved housing materials, enclosure types, storage furniture, and environmental conditions, ensuring the long-term care of collections.

Reporting
As well as assessing large collections, I also produce more detailed individual condition reports to capture an object's context, material make-up and physical condition.
After assessing condition and prior to conservation treatment, I create a treatment plan, a detailed proposal of the next steps which is shared with the relevant stakeholders.
I maintain visual documentation before, during and post conservation work to ensure accurate and detailed records. This may include detail shots, technical imaging and annotated drawings.
Post conservation treatment, I produce a treatment report, detailing treatment methods and materials used, and providing a record of change for the object.
When working with complex objects like installation works I create iteration reports. These reports capture details of the display event, providing a record and assisting with future exhibitions.
